Night 2 of the Buckeye Nationals
provided some pretty good racing. The difference in speeds was not quite
as noticable here as it was at Attica because of the lower banking.
Had a chance to talk to Indiana ace
Justin Marvel for a while during a caution. Great up-and-coming driver,
and all in all a hell of a nice guy. Another nice guy who makes a point
of taking extra time out for the fans in spite of the fact that he runs
a busy schedule is USAC's star driver J. J. Yeley. At age 26, this guy
may still be headed for bigger things soon. It's a shame that an outstanding
talent like Dave Darland at age 36 won't be afforded the same opportunities.
Unfortunately corporate America doesn't consider a driver of that age to
be nearly as marketable. But then again, no one ever claimed that those
opportunities will always go to the most deserving.....
305 Driver Phil Burroughs gave the
non winged race a whirl, but the track was too fast for him to have much
of a chance with the smaller engine.
Too old this!!

out of his Steve Lewis owned midget after his second win in as many nights.
USAC drivers meetings are rather
crowded affairs, as each team is required to have the driver and at least
1 crew member in attendance.
