In my first visit to K-C this season,
several things were quite noticable to me. One is that Jim Nier has done
a lot of work on this place, and the changes are all positive. This is
still a great old racetrack.
The other thing I noticed was that
the ticket & pit pass prices are still pretty steep, at $20 & $30
respectively. But before I got too upset about it, I took a good long look
around the place. There seems to be a great lack of track sponsors, as
a few banners on the turn 1 fence were all I could find. Those track sponsors
go a long way in keeping the prices down and the purses up, as is evidenced
at Attica & Fremont. K-C needs to do a much better job of marketing
their advertising space in order to accomplish this.
John Ivy held off a hard charging
Dale Blaney, who started 7th, to claim the feature win at Jim Nier's K-C
Raceway. The cars played cat and mouse with Chad Blonde's lapped car, and
Jim Stinson got into the fray as well to provide a thrilling race. Behind
Ivy, Blaney and Stinson were Ed Neumeister, Todd Heller and David Harrison,
who started 13th, to round out the top 6.
Jim Stinson was the fast qualifier
followed by Heller, Ivy, Phil Gressman, Neumeister and Kieth Baxter. Those
six cars raced in a 6 lap dash to determine the feature lineup with Ivy
coming out on top by a big margin. Heats were won by Blaney, Nick Nabor
and Hud Horton, while Brandon Martin took the B-Main by a convincing margin.

One unique feature of K-C is the
way the cars exit the track, straight up the turn 1 bank.

The Doug Ludwig cars of Matt Lucius

help to Lucius, a 410 rookie.
Jimmy Stinson looked very strong
all night, and recorded the quick time.
Brian Stinson, normally a late model
driver, took a spin in his brother's backup car and did quite well.
