Victor F. Hartzell Sr.
Brother of Tiffin residents
Victor F. Hartzell Sr., 90, of Defance, died at 3:55 a.m. Wednesday,
Oct. 14, 1998,
in Harborside Healthcare Center, Defiance.
He was born in Defiance, May 30, 1908, to Thomas and Rosalie (Reiniche)
Hartzell. His wife, Margaret A. (Valentic) Hartzell, whom he married
Aug. 20,
1935, died Jan. 28, 1973.
Survivors include: six sons, Victor Jr. and Robert Hartzell, both of
Defiance, John
Hartzell of Napoleon, Gerald Hartzell of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Don
Hartzell of
Hamilton, Ind. and Stephen ''Tony'' Hartzell of Willmington, N.C.;
two daughters,
Mrs. Fay (Joanne) Greene of Tecumseh, Mich. and Mrs. Norman (Rita)
Hasselschwert of Canadian Lakes, Mich.; a brother, Robert Hartzell
of Tiffin; a
sister, Mrs. Paul (Ellen) Elchert, also of Tiffin; 23 grandchildren
and 34
great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were two sons, Raymond and Paul Hartzell;
five
daughters, Martha, Marianne, Elizabeth, Suzanne and Sarah Hartzell;
three
brothers, Harry, Eugene and Paul Hartzell; and two sisters, Mary Louise
Elchert
and Regina Beat.
A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Defiance, where he was a lector
and a
member of the choir, Mr. Hartzell owned Vic's Wallpaper Store in Defiance
for
many years. He also owned his own home construction company and worked
as a
janitor at St. Mary's Catholic Church and School.
Also a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Noodle Club,
he had
attended the University of Detroit.
The Rev. Edward Schleter will be the celebrant at the 11 a.m. Funeral
Mass in St.
Mary's Catholic Church, with burial following in Riverside Cemetery,
Defiance.
Visitation at the Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance, will be
2-9 p.m.
Friday, where a Vigil service will be at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
